The South Bend Community School Corporation operates the public schools in South Bend, Indiana, and is one of the largest school corporations in Indiana, with a total of 33 schools.

James Kapsa is the district's superintendent, appointed on June 5, 2008. He replaced former superintendent Dr. Robert L. Zimmerman, who was removed as superintendent by the board on June 2, 2008.[3]
Hamilton is Hamilton Traditional School, as is Lafayette called Lafayette Traditional School
In 2003-2004 marked the first year Plan Z was taken into place. The plan was to move minority students with other students to keep schools even. Prior to Plan Z, there were 5 high school, 5 middle schools, and the rest elementary. Now, only 4 high school remain: Adams, Riley, Clay, and Washington. Former high school LaSalle was turned into an Academy for grades 5-8. Plan Z created the Intermediate and Primary centers (as listed above). Primary schools are grade K-4 and Intermediate schools are 5-8.
